Bugs on the Stour

Posting this a bit out of order for on the Saturday I went along the River Stour nr Whitemill, which with the weekends temperature boost to about 25C saw the bugs out in force, and of course mega active.

Found some interesting bugs about, firstly I came across two soft winged flower beetles on a grass seed head, and they appeared to be fighting.  Shot on Canon 50d with Canon MPE-65mm at around 1x magnification (F13) with flash from MT-24ex flashgun.  Not sure if this would be better rotated, but that’s how they were.

The next interesting bug was this caterpillar found on some grass, took the first shot on the Canon 100mm lens F16.

As it was in a good position, I got in closer by switching to my Canon MPE-65mm and managed the next shot at 1x Magnification.

And getting greedy I then stacked these two shots together with a trial copy of Zerene stacker…more about that software in another post soon…

Finally I also managed to get this damsel fly ( which was my hoped for target for the day ) on my Canon 100mm lens.

I've been taking macro photography from 2004. I use both Canon film and digital cameras.
