Cold Day Bug Mix

The first saturday in May was cold.  Almost typical bank holiday weekend weather with occassional light rain.  I set off to try a walk over Stobourgh Heath, but found the car park locked.  The next nearest place I could think of was Hartland Moor.  This proved to be a bad location on the day, the cold weather meaning not many things were out on the heath.

Before leaving I did manage to photograph a Crab Spider though.

I decided after about 20 mins there to move on to Kilwood in the hope that the environment there might be more condusive to finding some bugs.  It was a little bit better as there was some nettles and small flowers about, meaning there were some flies about including this Drone Fly.

And this, which I think is a Fold-winged Cranefly.

Lastly I also found a solitary ant on a leaf – first taken @1x Magnification.
