July Macro Round Up

I am still fairly backlogged with the images I have taken this year, but I have processed all the images I took in July, so will add the outstanding ones to this round up type post.

Firstly some shots that prove even when it is raining it’s worth venturing out to take some macro insect shots.   This was on a particularly wet day in July when some brief respite to the downpour led me out in more of a drizzle at first over Ramsdown nature reserve near Sopley.  I knew that the rhododendron may have some of their namesakes leafhopper’s so headed off to the plants at the end of the heath.  On the way I found another hopper – this on some brambles.

I was not to be mistake their were some of the Rhododendron leaf-hoppers around, and even in the wet they are a challenge to get up close – I succeeded best with this one.

However, much of my time was taken up when I found this bedraggled thick-headed fly on the leafhoppers plant.  These are the shots that I kept of the fly – I think it is a Sicus fly.

These next four images were taken on a better day at Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve, firstly a very pretty cranefly – the Tiger Cranefly.
