Carnivores, Omnivores & Herbievores

This is a selection of Carnivorous and Plant Feeding insects and spiders from mid June.  All were taken at Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve in Hampshire.

First the meat eaters…

A Female Scorpion fly busy eating.

In fact so busy – I managed to shoot a 4 image macro panorama of it munching.

There was also Crab Spider enjoying a snack of fly in a buttercup.

And was this other spider looking jealously on with one of it’s many eyes ?

Now onto a Fly – that seems to slurping up a leaf – in fact these flies are not plant eaters – they too prefer flesh – though the rotten variety, and will also feed on nectar – making it the Omnivore of this series .

Now onto the Herbivores – first a pollen feeding beetle.

And then these Cricket nymphs – which are plant eaters.
