Ambient Light with the MPE65mm

Another try out with the Canon MPE-65mm and ambient ( natural light ) only at the weekend.

This time I used ISO 800 on a Green Plant Bug that was posed fairly motionless on a plant.  There was a little breeze and I was handholding – so this ISO and F8 – gave a shutter speed of 1/125th of a second on the 760D.  It’s good enough – but does lack a bit of sharpness.

Next I bumped the ISO to 1600 and the F stop to 9.  The shutter speed now at 1/320th second.  You can see this has made  a big difference to image quality.  The soldier beetle being particuarly pleasing.  All the images were only taken at 1:1 and the insects fairly static, and I doubt handholding in ambient light will be practical above 2:1.  However the ISO performance of the 760D is certainly a big boost from my older 650D and does now bring in natural light into play with the MPE-65mm in certain conditions.

Another interesting test of your new cameras capabilities. All you need now is bright sunny weather with no breeze
