I heard that there were some good orchids showing at Blashford Lakes recently, so went on a trip to find some to take. The two species featured here are the Southern Marsh Orchid and the Spotted-Heath Orchid.
I took with me a new purchase a reflector that sit on the end of the lens, on first results and use this looks a good addition to my macro kit, as it does not need to be propped or held if the light you want to reflect is from the lens front. I also bought some card to place in the background. This to add colour and also to make the background to the shots clean, as the orchids on the reserve sit in long grass.
When proccessing the Southern Marsh Orchid – I applied a slight afterglow effect in Topaz Glow. Here is the result and following the original shot.
On the Spotted-Heath orchid I took the orchid more close up – first with a yellow, then a green card
All images were shot using a Canon 650D and Canon 100mm F2.8 USM Macro Lens in Natural Light & Reflector
