Macro Photography Tip (Number 1) – Watch for Foreground objects

Macro Photography Tip (Number 1) – Watch for Foreground objects

When shooting macro shots it is easy to get carried away concentrating on the subject you are taking, meaning you can miss something in the foreground that can mean the resulting image is not what you expect.  This can be particularly true if you are using a F stop that gives a wider field of view than what you see when looking through the lens eg (F11 in this example), as the lens view will be with the lens wide open.

In this case I was trying to shoot a Beefly, and was caught up attempting to get its head in focus before it flew off, and did not notice the slight green blur of the grass.  This is a fairly extreme case, but is always worth looking for if time and the subject permits whilst framing the shot.

I've been taking macro photography from 2004. I use both Canon film and digital cameras.
