Fiddleford Manor

On the Saturday 5th May I took a visit to Fiddleford Manor near Sturminster Newton.  I walked round the Manor and across the Mill stream to some fields alongside the river.  This time last year the fields were full of flying Mayflies, but the only one that I saw on this visit ( on yet another cold and overcast spring day this year ) was this Mayfly that had emerged from its from its moult after reaching adult stage.

A lone butterfly (a male Orange Tip) was resting on some surrounding vegetation – and I managed to get these two shots of it at rest on a tripod.

It later moved and posed with its wings open, which was pleasing for me as it is the first time I’ve managed to capture a male Orange Tip with its wings open.

This one I also like of it posing with the wings open from the side, allowing the orange to reflect through the wing.

Walking further round the field I found a Weevil amongst the vegetation.  I used a blue card in the background to simulate the sky.

Finally a bee was on a dock leaf, and as it crawled towards me I took this shot, which I have also converted to black and white using Topaz Labs , Black and White Effects photoshop plugin.  I like the more sinister look the monotone gives to the image.
