Damsel in Distress

A visit to the river path by White Mill on the 24th June, in some sun!, after a bout of rain, saw the damselflies and demoiselles out in force.  I’d taken a couple of demoiselles ( see the end of this article ) when I noticed a small and I think newly emerged White-Legged Damselfly on the pathway.   I did not want it trod on so I let it crawl onto my hand.  Having my MPE-65mm handy, I took this snapshot of it, before placing it on some nearby grasses, where it posed as it dried out it’s wings in the sun, before eventually flying off.

The last two close up images were taken whilst holding a blue and then a pink card in the background to give the coloured background, rather than a black background due to the flash.  Finally the next two macro photos are of a Male and Female Banded Demoiselle, the female being a slightly luck bounce landing shot.  It was in the same spot, but occasionally jumping in the air, I caught the shot of  it on landing.

Car park is here - photos taken from fields along the river, just past the Mill.

I've been taking macro photography from 2004. I use both Canon film and digital cameras.
